yeah. I think I get similar results for "fast" packets, but enough get
delayed for long enough to get the average up to 10ms! There is a large
variance. 

Both cards are EEpro-100B's.

Both have a 82557.  (grabbed a flashlight: the one that is in a
computer that has the cover off, has been double checked... :-)

Indeed. But I'm having trouble sourcing and sinking more than 5Mb per
second on both computers (although I have a striped RAID disk on the
server)
