I also encoutered problems running DOS stuff while the diskette image is in
memory, and guessed its memory being overwritten was the problem

-After boot-up set path & comspec to some network drive , containing
command.com
-rmrd.com


However , in your case , you still have to load the ASPI&CD drivers.
I remember a might be able to do this ! Don't know filename though but it
enabled loading config.sys drivers from command prompt, and I once tested it
on some cddriver.sys
