DHCP request timed out

in a cyrix mediagx diskless node with rtl8139 and etherboot 4.2.2 integrated
with award bios the system does not boot.
i get the error "bootp request timed out" while the  LTSP kernel is executing
and configuring ip after etherboot gets the ip address or initially itself
etherboot reports looking for server and then sleeps etc. or sometimes the
system gets the ip and boots normally.(i.e the system does not boot everytime
I reset the system) kernel.with bootrom code written to floppy with latest
etherboot version this does not happen and the system boots up every time
Can any one help me to diagnose the problem?
