RE: Etherboot tftp server 0.0.0.0

Fabulous!

I notice from some cursory research that the "next-server" option has been
only VERY recently introduced to the standard DHCP protocol spec. What I
cannot find out, however, is the option id number for "next-server".

Some DHCP servers hand out options by number instead of by name, it seems.
Would anyone know the number for "next-server"? As examples, "router" is
003, and "DNS Server" is 006, "boot server" is 066. I would have thought
that option 66 should be read but it seems that etherboot uses "next-server"
instead. Why is that?

Thanks for your help.

Dave...

You need the "next-server" parameter set in DHCP (assuming you are using
the ISC DHCP daemon). The "next-server" tells the client which server to go
to next for the TFTP (or PXE) etc. You need this even if the TFTP server is
the same box as the DHCP server.

Bob Edwards.
