You need to patch the kernel. You can't swap to a file on a NFS root
partition.

I don't use it myself it but I hear it's doable. It's a poor substitute
for a local hard disk. If you have only one or two clients, well, ok,
but if a whole classroom of machines start using network swap...

If you can, get a small hard disk, say 40-100 MB and use that as local
swap.
