PARD: WWW
The Common Gateway Interface, or CGI, is a standard for external gateway
programs to interface with information servers such as HTTP servers.
thttpd is a simple, small, portable, fast, and secure HTTP server. It
handles only the minimum necessary to implement HTTP/1.1 and has a very
small run-time size, since it does not fork and is very careful about memory
allocation. thttpd compiles cleanly on most Unix-like OS, specifically
including FreeBSD, SunOS 4, Solaris 2, BSD/OS, Linux and OSF. In typical use
it's about as fast as the best full-featured servers (Apache, NCSA,
Netscape). Under extreme load it's much faster. It goes to great lengths to
protect the web server machine against attacks and breakins from other
sites.
Apache-SSL is a secure webserver, based on Apache and SSLeay.
This module provides for user authentication using PostgreSQL tables.
mod_ssl provides provides strong cryptography for the Apache 1.3 webserver
via the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS
v1). It uses OpenSSL (based on SSLeay from Eric A. Young and Tim Hudson).

PHP is a server-side HTML embedded scripting language.
Squid offers high performance proxy caching for Web clients, It supports
FTP, Gopher, and HTTP requests. The cache software, available only in
source, is more than an order of magnitude faster than the CERN httpd and
other popular Internet caches, because it never needs to fork (except for
FTP), is implemented with non-blocking I/O, keeps meta data and hot objects
in VM, caches DNS lookups. Squid caches can be arranged hierarchically for
an improvement in response times and a reduction in bandwith usage. Squid
runs on all popular Unix platforms.
The wwwoffled program is a simple proxy server with special features for use
with dial-up internet links. This means that it is possible to browse web
pages and read them without having to remain connected.
While Online
- Caching of pages that are viewed for review later.
- Conditional
fetching to only get pages that have changed.
While Offline
- The ability to follow links and mark other pages for download.
-
Browser or command line interface to select pages for downloading.
-
Optional info on bottom of pages showing cached date and allowing refresh.
- Works with pages containing forms.
- Works with pages that require
basic username/password authentication.
- Can be configured to use
dial-on-demand for pages that are not cached.
Automated Download
- Downloading of specified pages non-interactively.
- Can automatically
fetch inlined images/applets in pages fetched this way.
- Can automatically
fetch contents of all frames on pages fetched this way.
- Automatically
follows links for pages that have been moved.
- Can monitor pages at
regular intervals to fetch those that have changed.
- Makes backup copies
of cached pages so server errors don't overwrite them.
Provides
- Caching of web pages (http) or ftp sites and finger command.
- An
introductory page with information and links to the built-in pages.
-
Multiple indices of pages stored in cache for easy selection.
-
Interactive or command line control of online/offline status.
- User
selectable purging of pages from cache based on hostname.
- Interactive or
command line option to fetch pages and links recursively.
- Interactive web
page to allow editing of the configuration file.
- Built in simple
web-server for local pages.
- Automatic proxy configuration for Netscape.
General
- Can be used with one or more external proxies based on hostname.
-
Automates proxy authentication for external proxies that require it.
-
Configurable to still allow use on intranets while offline.
- Can be
configured to block or not cache URLs based on file type or host.
- Can
censor outgoing HTTP headers to maintain user privacy.
- All options
controlled using a simple configuration file.
- Optional password control
for management functions.
- User customisable error and information pages.
MiniVend is a full-featured electronic catalog system (commonly known as a
shopping cart) with fast and easy online ordering. It is designed to provide
an interface complete with SSL security and full database support. It is as
powerful as commercial systems costing thousands of dollars.
Miva Merchant is a browser based Storefront and Catalog development tool
that integrates cataloging, product maintenance, category management,
shopping basket, order and credit card processing. Multiple stores can be
maintained by one central administrator or specific store functions can be
delegated to sub-administrators.
The software is organized as a series of modules that can be field upgraded
to provide new functionality without any changes to the core system.
Developers can use the browser based interface to build stores or can get
"under the hood" with complete access to the underlying source codes written
in XML based Miva Script. Merchants manage their stores with a user friendly
browser based interface.
