PARD: GNOME
GNOME is the GNU Network Object Model Environment. This project intends to
build a complete, user-friendly desktop based entirely on free software.
This desktop consists of small utilities and larger applications which share a
consistent look and feel. It uses the GTK as the GUI toolkit for all
GNOME-compliant applications.
GNOME is a project similar in spirit to the K Desktop Environment (KDE), but
built completely from free software as specified by the GNU General Public
License (GPL) and the Library General Public License (LGPL).
We will be using a lot of code and ideas from KDE (if we have permission
from their authors), adding new ideas, and fixing the (few) design problems
in KDE.
The GNOME Core module includes the Panel, the Help Browser, the Terminal,
and the Session Manager.
The GNOME libraries are required to build the other GNOME desktop components
(released independently of this library).
The GNOME Media module includes the Mixer and the CD Player.
The GNOME Utilities module includes the Calendar, the Time Tracker, and
several utility programs to make your life more pleasant.
