a2ps

a2ps formats named files for printing in a PostScript printer; if no file is given, a2ps reads from the standard input. The output may be sent to the printer or to the standard output or saved into a file.

The format used is nice and compact: normally two pages on each physical page, borders surrounding pages, headers with useful information (page number, printing date, file name or supplied header), line numbering, pretty-printing, symbol substitution etc. This is very useful for making archive listings of programs.

enscript

GNU enscript is a free replacement for Adobe's enscript program. Enscript converts ASCII files to PostScript and spools the generated PostScript output to the specified printer or leaves it to file. Besides the standard ASCII to PostScript conversion, GNU enscript can do many other things, including:
language sensitive highlighting
The language sensitive highlighting is similar to the Emacs' font lock mode. The highlighting rules are defined in a separate configuration file that can be updated without recompiling the enscript binary. The current version supports 33 languages and file formats. Since the definition file is independent from the enscript binary, it is updated more frequently than new enscript releases are made. To keep up-to-date with latest highlighting rules, please, follow the GNU Enscript WWW home page.
support for different output languages
GNU Enscript can generate output to the following formats: PostScript, HTML, overstrike (format that the nroff program generates), and RTF.
support for different input encodings
The following input encodings are supported: ISO-8859-{1,2,3,4,5,7}, ASCII, ASCII with some scandinavian extensions, IBM PC, MAC, VMS, HP8, and KOI8.

txt2html

txt2html is a Perl program that converts plain text to HTML. It supports headings, lists, simple character markup, and hyperlinking, and is highly customizable. It recognizes some of the apparent structure of the source document (mostly whitespace and typographic layout), and attempts to mark that structure explicitly using HTML.
