can't boot with boot-disk

hi all,

i am new here and i am an absolute beginner. I just wanted to try that fabulous
thing.
but there is the first problem :

can't boot with my boot-disk created like in the manual (I have no eprom
burner):

cat -A floppyload.bin eepro100.rom > /dev/fd0

There is nothing special happening. I recieve no message on the client when
trying to boot with that disk. In the manual it is recommended to use a 'raw'
floppy disk. 'Raw' means fdformat /dev/fdH01440 for ex.??

After that i've also tried with 'make eepro100.fd0' but in vain...make goes on
and on and copies the files on disk but after that...

note : at this time i just want to try getting a message from the boot-disk,
nothing else. Server configuration is yet incomplete...(but perhaps I don't
understand and there's really no message on the boot-disk ????)
